Retrospective and Expanded International YA (organized by region and country):
Because just 25 International YA titles is too few, here is an expanded list of international YA with additional new titles and some retrospective ones as well — all organized by country/region of setting (except as noted *) and graphic novels are indicated by, ‘GN.’
Also, I have left off some bestselling and infamous international YA of recent and past history – like Harry Potter and Tolkien – in favour of some lesser known titles; though I do love Harry Potter, I thought it might be nice to give some exposure to lesser known (in N. America) British fantasy series like Mortal Engines, or to less well-known historical titles of YA interest like Things falls apart by Chinua Achebe (from Nigeria).
Finally, as this is an in-process list, there are areas that do need expansion, such as titles from North and East Africa, China, and category #3 and #4 (published abroad) titles from Latin America. As this is a work in progress, please comment with any suggestions for additions of titles I may have overlooked.
